Brief
Working with Construction Health and Safety New Zealand What can you design can do to reduce the health and safety impacts of working in the building trades.
Look at specific tasks, identifying design interventions that can reduce musculo-skeletal injuries and other long-term health impacts. Work with Tradespeople and CHASNZ staff, to understand the problems and evaluate solutions.
I chose to look at what can be done to prevent common injuries among floorers. The project was a great lesson in the importance of rigorous prototyping and testing. My clear problem area was not thoroughly addressed through lack of testing in the environment which showed in my final product. This paper was great for understanding user needs and highlighted many things I particularly love in the Industrial Design process; ie rapid prototyping, mechanisms and works like prototyoes.
